Arizona Sunbirds Winter 2010 Newsletter

Arizona Sunbirds had a successful outing November 18 – 21 at Quail Ridge RV Resort in Huachuca City, AZ. We had 16 Sunbird and 6 guest rigs attending. Several of our guests plan to join as of the first of the year. Outing activities included lunch at, and tour, of Bisbee’s Copper Queen hotel as arranged by Donna Garrett. Also, several members took the underground tour of the Queen Mine in Bisbee. In addition, we were escorted onto the Fort Huachuca military base by Patricia R. for a tour of the three military museums located there. The chapter’s meeting resulted in the election of our 2011 officers. Elected were Alan VanAmburg – President, Bob Garrett – Vice-president, Bob Biegel – Treasurer and John Mollerus – Secretary. For Friday night’s dinner Blake H. provided a hobo stew with members and guests providing an assortment of canned vegetables for it. Saturday night’s spaghetti dinner was made by Patricia R.

December Christmas/Holiday Parties
SUNBIRDS (EAST) – John D. organizer
The Sunbirds East Christmas Gathering was held December 9th at Buddy's Grill in Tucson. Barb D. presented each couple with a home made Pumpkin Bread. A good time was had by all. We plan to get together again in January.

SUNBIRDS (CENTRAL) – Donna G. organizer
The Sunbirds Central Christmas Gathering was held on December 8 at Happy Trails RV and Golf Resort in Surprise. There were 34 attendees. This was a potluck dinner with the new President providing a ham. We played various games including Minnesota bingo.

The Sunbirds West Christmas Gathering was held on December 16 at Krystal's restaurant in Lake Havasu City. Attending were Paul & Barb S. and Barb's mom Kay K., Skeet & Peggy S., David P. & Mae S., Mike & Sandy M., Larry & Karen J., Bob & Ferol W., Paul & Arlene B., Norm & Jeanne S., Earl & Edy G. and John & Tina V.. 3-T's RV Products provided the cocktails before dinner.

SUNBIRDS (SOUTHWEST) – Blake H. organizer
The Sunbirds Southwest Christmas Gathering was held on December 20 at The Foothills Eatery and Spirits in Yuma. Attending were Don & Merith C., John & Margaret D., Blake & Sandra H., Harrison & Courtney M. and Art & Paula S.

Sunbird Member News
Paul B. continues to make good progress as he recovers from his September heart surgery. We continue to wish him a speedy recovery.

January Arizona State Outing
January’s outing, (Valley Suntascans hosts), will be held at Augies Quail Trail RV Resort, January 13 – 16. Cost is $85 for a 2 person rig. Additional information, including outing agenda, can be found at the Grand Canyon Winnies website at http://www.grandcanyonwinnies.org/gcw/schedule.htm. See the website on where to send your reservation, which should be received by the Grand Canyon Winnies Treasurer by January 7.

February Arizona Sunbirds Chapter Outing
Looking ahead, our February chapter outing, which should be held February 17 – 20, is still undecided. Anyone who would like to be wagon master or has some ideas on where to hold it should contact Alan VanAmburg at acv1938@yahoo.com.

March Arizona State Outing
March’s state outing will be hosted by the Arizona Sunbirds, on March 25 – 27 at Havasu Falls RV Park, Lake Havasu City. Additional information on this outing, in including the fee and agenda, will be available in early 2011. Barb S. is Wagon Master.
NOTE: this outing is only a 2-night outing and will be held on the 4th weekend of the month. This scheduling makes it easier (less traveling) for members who also want to attend the Southwest Regional Rally on the following weekend in Pahrump, NV.

Southwest Regional Rally
The SWR will be held March 31 – April 3 at National Treasure RV Park in Pahrump, NV. Rally fee and agenda have not been established as of this date. Information will be sent out as it becomes available or check the Grand Canyon Winnies website at http://www.grandcanyonwinnies.org/swrr/swrr_11_agenda.htm.
